THPRD in Beaverton Named Parks & Recreation Agency of the Year by Racquet Sports Industry Magazine

Racquet Sports Industry (RSI), the largest national trade publication serving the tennis industry, has named Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) in Beaverton, Ore., the inaugural winner of its “Parks &THPRD logo_1-12 Recreation Agency of the Year” award.
The award was one of 20 announced by the publication in its January 2012 “Champions of Tennis 2011” issue, which honored the people, companies and organizations dedicated to improving the sport and business of tennis.
Racquet Sports Industry reporter Robin Bateman wrote, “When it comes to developing grassroots tennis programs and cultivating relationships with tennis organizations, it’s hard to beat the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District.”
RSI also quoted USTA Pacific Northwest Director of Community Tennis Ruth Turner, who called THPRD “our go-to organization for all of our programs.”
“We pride ourselves on being an organization that offers opportunities for everyone, especially those new to the sport,” said Brian Leahy, Tualatin Hills Tennis Center Supervisor. “It’s flattering to get national recognition for the work we put into introducing new players to tennis and nurturing their love of the sport.”
The Tualatin Hills Tennis Center provides opportunities for players of every age and ability level to learn tennis. THPRD’s 111 courts at 36 sites throughout the greater Beaverton area serve 180,000 players each year. Tennis instructors teach an estimated 11,000 class hours annually.
Formed in 1955, THPRD is the largest special park district in Oregon, spanning about 50 square miles and serving more than 200,000 residents in the greater Beaverton area. The district provides year-round recreational and educational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. For more information, visit www.thprd.org
