Utilize these free and low cost resources
1. King County Library Non-Profit & Philanthropy Resource Center: http://www.kcls.org/sc/nprc.cfm Many resources listed with links to other sites for Washington State and National information for grants, fund development, and non-profits. Great tool for research before you start a fund development program or grant proposal. Check out the calendar if you are in the Greater Puget Sound Area for a listing of events and training - many are free or low-cost.
2. Center for Disease Control Adult Obesity Rate by State http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity/trend/maps/index.htm This is very useful to help you make the case for any healthy activity to combat obesity - great way to illustrate the epidemic. On the web page, just click on the PowerPoint Presentation link to see the slide show.

4. U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, Office on Women's Health: www.4girls.gov Focus on health and fitness for girls.
5. Center for Nutrition Policy & Promotion at: www.usda.gov/cnpp/AboutCNPP.html We plan on adding their materials to our college workshop program so that teens will make healthier choices.
6. Office of Minority Health (OMH) at: http://www.omhrc.gov/ Just another resource site along with a page that searches for health-related funding.
7. Free or downloadable booklet: "101 Tools for Tolerance - Simple Ideas for Promoting Equity and Celebrating Diversity." www.tolerance.org "For all our differences, we share one world. To be tolerant is to welcome the difference and delight in the sharing."
8. Code for Living - Life Principles Learned Through Sports at: http://www.abw.org/code.asp Option to create a personalized contract/document to encourage good sportsmanship.
9. TechSoup - Need computer help? Visit: http://www.techsoup.org/ They offer nonprofits a one-stop resource for technology needs by providing free information, resources, and support. In addition to online information and resources, nonprofits can access donated and discounted technology products, generously provided by corporate and nonprofit technology partners.
10. America's Promise - http://www.americaspromise.org An organization founded by General Colin Powell with a mission "to mobilize people from every sector of American life to build the character and competence of our nation’s youth by fulfilling Five Promises: ongoing relationships with caring adults, safe places with structured activities, a healthy start, marketable skills, and opportunities to give back." Sign-up for their free e-newsletter to hear about grant opportunities, innovative ideas, and best practices.
11. Help for non-profits available at: www.allianceonline.org The Alliance for Nonprofit Management is the professional association of individuals and organizations devoted to improving the management and governance capacity of nonprofits - to assist nonprofits in fulfilling their mission. On-line topics include: Board Development, Strategic Planning, Fundraising, Financial Management, Risk Management, and Credit Card Acceptance. Grantseekers can look for a center that provides information to nonprofits in their area by using their search directory.
